Greek Archbishop Ieronymos counts on a close cooperation relationship with the Head of the Russian Orthodox Church ( 06.03.2009 )

The Archbishop of Athens and the all Greece, Archbishop Ieronymos stated his intention to establish close cooperation relationship with the Head of Russian Orthodox Church His Holiness Cyril, on the meeting with the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Greece.

During this meeting, the Russian Ambassador noticed to the Head of the Greek Orthodox Church that “he counts the continuation and further development of traditionally close relationship between the same-religion peoples of Greece and Russia as one of the most important aims of his work in Greece.” 

Ambassador V. Chikvishvilli delivered the invitation of the Russian Patriarch Cyril to Archbishop Ieronymos to visit Russia.   

On the other hand, Archbishop Ieronymos said that he relies on establishing a closer cooperation with the Head of the Russian Orthodox Church, whom he has met several times before. He accented the importance of strengthening the unity of the Orthodox Churches and peoples and because it has a particularly great meaning in today’s complicated circumstances. 

Ambassador Chikvishvilli also invited His Holines Ieronymos and the members of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church to a traditional festive lunch in the occasion of the Day of the victory of the Orthodoxy. The invitation was gratefully accepted.
